The Brief
The Bykramp brief was challenging, it had to be in order to deliver a product that not only worked but looked good and was deliverable. Current ramps were heavy, expensive, costly to install and as a result not used frequently. The brief therefore set 9 criteria; the ramp it had to be…
1. simple with as few parts as possible.
2. capable of being fitted to existing staircases of any pitch.
3. efficient in design and production terms.
4. affordable as current models believe it or not were expensive.
5. easy to install.
6. vandal proof as possible - installed mainly in the public realm.
7. unobstructive to pedestrian movement, yet still useable by the cyclists.
8. deliverable…ideally free to the recipient location.
9. recognisable in its design form…this would be an added bonus.
